Kohlberg's Guide to Right vs. Wrong!
Ever Wonder How We Learn Right From Wrong?
Meet Kohlberg’s Stages of Moral Development!
Have you ever had to decide whether to tell the truth, even if it meant getting into trouble?
Or maybe you’ve faced a situation where you wondered if it was okay to break a rule just this once.
Well, there's a cool theory behind how we figure out right from wrong, and it’s all thanks to Lawrence Kohlberg and his Stages of Moral Development!
Kohlberg’s theory is like a roadmap for how our ideas about right and wrong grow as we get older.
It’s not just about obeying rules—it’s about understanding why certain things are right or wrong.
Here’s how it works:
1. Pre-Conventional Stage (Ages 4-10) 👶 This is the "What's in it for me?" stage. At this point, kids mostly think about how their actions will affect them directly. If something leads to a reward or avoids punishment, they’re in!
2. Conventional Stage (Ages 10-16) This is when you start thinking about what’s expected from others. It’s not just about you anymore—now you care about following rules, being a good friend, and doing what’s expected by society. "What will people think?" becomes important.
3. Post-Conventional Stage (16+ and beyond) 👩🦰
Now you start questioning the rules. You think about things like justice, fairness, and rights.
This stage is about doing what’s right even if others don’t agree, or if it means breaking a rule for a bigger good!
So next time you’re facing a tough decision, remember Kohlberg’s stages!
You’re growing in your moral development, learning to think beyond just following rules and starting to question what’s truly right and wrong. Cool, right?
The more you grow, the better you understand the world around you! 🌍
